DAY 1 – Depart the UK

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Anchorage. Upon arrival, transfer independently to your hotel.

DAY 2 – Glenallen

Driving distance: 189 miles/304 km

Collect your car rental and prepare for a very scenic drive today as you head along the Glenn Highway to Glenallen. The highlights of today’s journey include the Alaska Native Heritage Centre, Independence Mine in Hatcher Pass and Matanuska Glacier.

DAY 3 – McCarthy

Driving distance: 125 miles/202 km

Today, drive parts of the Richardson and Edgerton Highways, enjoying great views of the Wrangell Mountains as you travel. As you get closer to Chitina you can enjoy views of the Tonsina River. Beyond Chitina is the Copper River Bridge and the rugged town of McCarthy.

DAY 4 – McCarthy

Enjoy a full day exploring this fascinating back country area. You may choose to take a guided alpine or glacier hike or try a river rafting tour.

DAY 5 – Valdez

Driving distance: 176 miles/282 km

Today, you’ll journey back along the McCarthy and Edgerton Highways. A great stop en route to Valdez is the Worthington Glacier, where you can take scenic photographs of the canyons and waterfalls.

DAY 6 – Valdez

Valdez is the end terminus of the Alyeska Pipeline as well as the perfect gateway to explore Prince William Sound and its glaciers. You may choose to take a day cruise to the Sound and Columbia Glacier or just take the day to explore Valdez.

DAY 7 – Denali National Park

Driving distance: 320 miles/512 km

The forest and lake scenery on today’s journey to Paxton is magnificent. From Paxton you will travel on Denali Highway, which is also known for its spectacular scenery, and on to the world famous Denali National Park.

DAY 8 – Denali National Park

Denali is home to North America’s highest mountain – Mount McKinley, as well as many different species of birds and wild animals. Access to the park is strictly limited so we have included a 7 hour coach tour of the park.

DAY 9 – Anchorage

Driving distance: 237 miles/383 km

This morning drive south through Wasilla, home of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Races, and perhaps make a stop to watch a demonstration. Following the road south you will arrive in Anchorage.

OVERNIGHT: Inlet Tower Suites

DAY 10 – Seward & Anchorage

Driving distance: 254 miles/409 km

Travel along the Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic highways in Alaska towards Seward. Choose whether to spend the day exploring or take a boat trip to Kenai Fjords National Park, a beautiful marine park which is home to many marine animals including humpback and orca whales. Return to Anchorage for your final evening.

DAY 11 – Return to the UK

Time for some last minute shopping or sightseeing before making your way to Anchorage Airport to return your hire car and check in for your flight back to the UK.

DAY 11 – Arrival at Juneau

Fly to Juneau and transfer to your hotel – your base for the next three nights.

DAY 12 – Juneau

Today you will explore Juneau – Alaska’s capital city, on a guided 2.5 hour tour which includes many highlights such as Mendenhall Glacier and the tramway to Mt Roberts. The remainder of the day is free to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

OVERNIGHT: Baranof Hotel

DAY 13 – Admirality Island

Admirality Island has the highest concentration of bears found anywhere in Alaska, and your pilot will take you to the very best areas for bear viewing on a 3 hour guided flightseeing tour to the ’Fortress of the Bears’.

DAY 14 – Gustavus

Take an early morning independent transfer to the airport to meet your flight to Gustavus. Upon arrival transfer to Gustavus Inn, from where you will take a 3.5 hour whale watching cruise into Icy Strait. These are the summer feeding grounds for humpback whales so keep your cameras close by.

DAY 15 – Glacier Bay National Park

Another exciting day as you set out for Glacier Bay Lodge, from where a full day cruise into Glacier Bay National Park commences. Lunch is included during your journey.

DAY 16 – Seattle

Enjoy some free time at the lodge this morning before taking a transfer back to Gustavus Airport to meet your flight to Juneau and connection through to Seattle.

OVERNIGHT: Grand Hyatte

DAY 17 – Return to the UK

This morning you will have time for some shopping or sightseeing in the cosmopolitan city of Seattle before making your way to Seattle Airport to check in for your flight back to the UK.
